why-do-you-do-yoga

Dear yogis & yoginis!

Today is a good day to share with you my reason to do yoga.

I started practicing yoga back in 2010. What started as a fitness practice, a way to stretch my muscles and bring more energy into my body after a full day in front of my desk, slowly became my favorite thing to do and a lifestyle. I never expected this practice is going to teach me so many new things about myself, but it did. It brought so much positive energy, commitment, respect towards myself and others, a way to see things the way they are without forcing my opinions and perceptions on other people.

I’m a human being with ups and downs, good days and bad days. My motivation is not always at its highest peak, but I choose to show up on my mat even on those days when I don’t feel like doing my practice. I learned that life is not about doing only what we like, but learning from the experiences that we have. Suffering is not something that we can completely avoid, but we can choose  the way we look at it. Do we see the glass half empty or half full?

I guess one of the many big lessons yoga is teaching me is that I and only I am responsible for the way I choose to feel. I cannot blame people, because there is no one to blame for what happens to me and the actions that I don’t take.

I’m not as wise as I hope to become one day and I still have so much to improve, but I finally understood that I’m the only one  responsible for my life.

And last but not least, a simple, yet complicated answer: “I do yoga because it makes me happy!!” 🙂

Eventually don’t we all just want to be happy?

What is your reason to show up on your mat?
